The C Word: Confidence

For women, confidence can be seen as a dirty word. Spoiler alert, it’s not. Confident women are often called stuck up, full of themselves, annoying, bossy, conceited… the list goes on. My personal favourite is ‘over-confident’. I mean, confidence is an admirable quality. How can someone have too much of it? I, personally, am a very confident person. I love who I am and I’m not afraid to say it. I don’t think anyone should be criticised for having self confidence because it’s so damn important! How can anyone see how great you are if you can’t see it yourself? You are who you are so it’s time to own it.

Positive self talk

My biggest advice is to compliment yourself daily. Don’t walk around the street saying ‘Oh my god Beatrice you’re on FIRE today. Get it.’ You’ll look insane. But positive self talk is important. The other day I referred to myself as ‘straight up banging.’ I have also been known to refer to myself as, and I quote, ‘skinnier than Ariana Grande,’ with the ‘ass of Nicki Minaj’. I then went on to say that everyone better ‘watch out’ because I’m ‘coming in hotter than hell.’ Obviously I am not skinnier than Ariana and my ass is nothing like Queen Minaj’s but talking yourself up is important. It may sound weird but you guys have got to trust me on this. Next time you go out, please refer to yourself as “straight up banging” in honour of me. I promise it will make you feel just as confident as Iggy Azalea is in her mediocre rapping abilities.

Other people can be mean, so there is no need to be mean to yourself too. In the (probably sexist) words of David Guetta ‘Damn who’s a sexy bitch? A sexy bitch. Damn girl.’ YOU. You are the sexy bitch. So start acting like it!

Women bringing down other women

This straight up sucks. We are all guilty of judging others but girls, come on, we’ve got to stop bringing each other down and start building each other up. The one and only Tina Fey famously said in Mean Girls, ‘You’ve got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores’. And I couldn’t agree more. If there’s one thing I want to get rid of in my life time, it’s the negative connotations around the word ‘slut’. Stop using it. In terms of equality, you’re sending us back 30 years. I’m talking to you Regina George!

If you’ve ever called another woman slutty, fat, ugly, trashy, chubby or anything else terrible, then you’re part of the problem. (I’m not completely innocent in this either). I have been called every single one of those things and you know how I’ve handled it? By literally just telling them to F**k off. And then I probably spun some line about how I’m an 11 out of 10 with an ass that won’t quit. At the end of the day, If you aren’t rooting for yourself, who will? If you rely on others for validation, you’ll never be satisfied.

Body Image

In a world where we are judged based on how we look, it can be hard to not feel insecure sometimes. I get it. We’ve all had those days when we’ve eaten two cans of Pringles, looked in the mirror and thought ‘Jesus christ when did I fall pregnant with quintuplets?’. I used to be insecure about my stomach, until I realised that I am the way I am and again, I’m still a sexy bitch. Other people might be insecure about their thighs, butt, arms or face, but we are all human. None of us are perfect (other than Angelina Jolie. What a bloody goddess) but we are still pretty awesome. A perfect body is nice, but it’s self confidence and the ability to own what you’ve got and rock it that really makes someone sexy.

In this world of social media, it’s so hard not to compare ourselves to others. But if you work at it every day, you’ll be able to appreciate someone else’s beauty without diminishing your own. And girls, if we can all do that, we’ll be unstoppable. So next time you’re lacking in confidence just remember, you’re a straight up banging sexy bitch. And don’t you ever forget it.

Disclaimers

  • Iggy Azalea, if you’re reading this, I apologise for my earlier comment. I did really like that song ‘Fancy’! But your rapping career is totally over, sorry love. At least you’re still a sexy bitch.
  • Please only refer to yourself as a sexy bitch to your friends, family, anyone that says otherwise and the woman in the mirror. I do not want to be blamed for creating a great big confidence monster. Although, that would be pretty cool.
  • This is totally applicable to men. You can be a sexy bitch too! #samssexybitches
